It's the type of place where you can sit back, relax, and enjoy a leisurely meal after a day of exploring Tokyo’s vibrant streets.

What sets Kitchen Nankai Jinbocho apart from other dining spots in the city is its menu, which offers a wide variety of dishes. Their specialty is Japanese comfort food, with an emphasis on fresh ingredients and home-style recipes. From crispy tempura to tender grilled fish, each dish is crafted with care, bringing out the best flavors of Japan. The tonkatsu (breaded and deep-fried pork cutlet) is a standout, perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Pair it with a bowl of fluffy rice and miso soup, and you've got a meal that hits all the right notes.

Another favorite on the menu is the sukiyaki, a savory and slightly sweet hot pot made with thinly sliced beef, tofu, and vegetables simmered in a rich soy-based broth. It's the kind of dish that warms you from the inside out, making it a perfect choice during the colder months. For those who enjoy seafood, the restaurant’s fresh sashimi and grilled fish options are excellent choices. Each piece is impeccably prepared, showcasing the flavors of the ocean in the most delicious way.

The fish and meats are carefully sourced, ensuring that every bite is fresh and flavorful. Whether it's the delicate sweetness of the fish or the savory umami in the broth, the ingredients come together to create meals that leave a lasting impression.

For those seeking something a bit more adventurous, the okonomiyaki (savory pancake) is a must-try. This dish is a fun fusion of crispy cabbage, meat, and a tangy sauce that offers a true taste of Japanese street food culture. It’s the kind of dish you can enjoy while chatting with friends, making it a great option for group dining.

  • A simple and good plate of curry - loved by the locals. The chefs will ask for your order while you're still in the line - they have an English menu if you ask. Very affordable.

  • Very good Japanese curry rice. Curry has a kick. Small place. Need to wait. But worth it.

  • Solid katsu and curry. The staff is very nice and helpful. The beauty of the restaurant is how smoothly everyone does their part. Then the food comes, and it doesn't disappoint. I try to go there every trip to Tokyo.

  • When you are in Japan and see a line with >90% of japanese people, you can’t go wrong. This place offers the best kare I had in Japan: dark colored, spicy, not to mention the tonkatsu and the korokke. The service is fast: you order while you are in line, you seat, you eat, you pay and you leave. As it should be.

  • Nice local experience. Very tasty curry, heavy and a large portion so plan to come with an appetite. This place will have a long line so plan to come early, we got there even a half hour before and were first, but it quickly turned around the block (see pic). Overall it was a unique experience but nothing to rave about compared to the other amazing Japanese dishes out there.

  • In contrast to the popular reviews, I think their specialty is not really the curry but actually the deep fried stuff? The pork were fried to perfection and they also have other deep fried things going on. For me the curry itself was pretty bland, not sweet, no spicy, just a bit salty. It was like a deep rich salty taste which covers the spice taste, and almost none sweet taste. The curry was also quite starchy. If I get to go again, I'll definitely do the deep fried dish instead and have it with tonkatsu sauce and mayo. Went there on a Saturday lunch time so there was a big queue. The wait is around 30 minutes all the way from like 11 to 1pm. I do like the service though because it was fast and efficient. There will be a lady who takes your order while you are in line. Once it's your turn, she seats you down, and gives you what you ordered. You'll eat and leave in like 10-15 minutes or so. If you want to order more, you can tell her directly while seated. The price was pretty cheap. Katsu curry was 800 Yen. I'll eat here again if I don't have to queue half an hour.
